Case StudiesBelow you will find examples of some of the recent projects Campus Training has undertaken.
Learner Case Study; Emma Lowe from Osbourne Energy“I have worked for Osbourne Energy for 2 years and 2 months, and I wanted to do my NVQ to gain knowledge, progress, and also learn and develop my skills. I got on very well with my assessor and Campus Training was very supportive. I could always call and get support.
Having the qualification delivered in my workplace was very useful, and it tied in nicely with everything else that I am doing. My employer was very helpful, always asking how it was going, and I have had very positive feedback. They wanted me to progress, and were very keen for me to do the next qualification. The programme was very relevant to my job, I moved into Management after completing my Level 2 Business and Administration, and then moved onto my Level 3 Management qualification, which tied in very well with what I was doing. In terms of the programme improving my knowledge and work skills, it was good. I liked doing the research needed to gather evidence, and I would like to do another qualification after I have finished doing this one. It’s really good to know that I am going down the right path for me; it’s good for my knowledge of my job as I really enjoy managing. I am currently the Programmes Manager for the company, but I would love to go as high up as possible and enjoy some more responsibility.” Teaching Assistants ProjectThe teaching assistant’s role is an extremely important one within all schools today and one which the government is increasingly putting more emphasis on. However, due to a serious lack of resources Schools were finding it difficult to ensure their Teaching Assistants were being sufficiently trained to meet the ever changing need of the role.
With all schools needing to train TA’s Campus Training , along with the local LEA’s and schools devised a plan that would help make this easier to achieve. Campus Training embarked on training 26 trainees from within local schools towards gaining their A1 Assessor Award. As part of this training each A1 assessor had 2 teaching assistants from within their schools working towards the Teaching Assistants NVQ 3. Supported with Funding from the LSC and the LEA’s the schools contribution was made affordable and also gave them a long term ability to deliver these qualification in-house, without having to afford external training costs. Although the candidates found it difficult at first to adapt to an assessing role the project is now well into its second year with most of the trainees having achieved or very close to achieving their A1 award and more than half the TA’s gaining the full NVQ level III, which is a major achievement within 18 months for new assessors. The majority of schools are now beginning to train additional TA’s at a seriously reduced cost. Campus Training provides all the schools with the ability to run as their own centre without having the administrative burden that usually entails. Campus manage, administer and support the delivery of this project through a network of Internal Verifiers and support assessors – providing schools with the necessary expertise to deliver high quality NVQ’s internally. Eventually the schools will develop Networks so those not involved in the pilot, or too small for the project, can tap into the resources of other schools local to themselves to enable NVQ’s to be delivered to their TA’s at a significantly reduced cost. Re-Skilling for RedundancyA very large employer based in Tunbridge Wells was unfortunately advised by the parent company the operation was being terminated.
Campus Training was asked to assist in providing the employees that were to be made redundant with a qualification that would enhance their job prospects. Many of these employees had only ever worked with this organisation and, although very skilled, had little or no qualifications. The key issue was time – the company was due to close the operation within 5 months, which left very little time to work with the individuals. Campus immediately embarked on interviewing all staff and securing some funding for the company to make it viable. In total 20 employees embarked on an NVQ in one of the following disciplines:
Lone Parent qualification programmeThis Learner contacted her local job centre about the possibility of doing training and volunteering at her local school. She looked at suitable courses, and then approached the school as she had children there. She started volunteering and quickly finished her level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, and then went on to her level 3 which she has nearly finished. Her Assessor is so pleased with her progress that she has suggested she move on to her Level 2 in Playwork.
"I contacted the Job Centre as I wanted to work in the school as I have children there. They informed me that I could do my Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning. I initially was volunteering at the school, but after I completed my level 2, I actually started to work there officially whilst doing my level 3.
My assessor was brilliant. Maxine has been fantastic, and I could phone her anytime I had a problem. She is always offering help and has been very supportive.
The School have been very supportive as well. They have really pushed me to do things that I wouldn’t have done before, and I have received very positive feedback.
I wanted to move onto the level 3 so that I could further my education. The qualifications are brilliant as they are tailored to my job role through the units that you chose. The Supporting Teaching and Learning Qualification has allowed me to use more relevant knowledge when I am working with the children. I now want to move on and do my Playwork Level 2 qualification with Campus Training.
I have seen massive benefits doing this qualification. My confidence was very low from being on my own, and it was great being able to communicate with adults that were so supportive. It’s fantastic to be able to work with children and extremely satisfying.
My overall experience with Campus Training has been absolutely brilliant. I wouldn’t change anything about it, it really has been fantastic and I have had fun." Recognition for Hard WorkAn extremely large food production company, employing over 800 staff decided it would reward its staff working on the production lines by offering them the opportunity to achieve an NVQ level II in Food and Drink Manufacturing.
Due to a lack of skilled labour within this sector Campus was able to secure some funding to support the employer deliver this huge training programme. Almost 150 candidates applied for the training, many of which had no previous qualifications and were from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds but all were willing to grasp the opportunity with relish. The project took 18 months to complete with three assessors working on a 24 hour site with employees from all shifts. Over 75% completed the full NVQ II and the company’s staff turnover reduced dramatically thereafter. What next? Click here to fill in our quick enquiry form »
